The heart of the gallery is a group of seventeenth-century Dutch and Flemish masterpieces from the Vienna collection assembled by Count Johann Rudolf Czernin, crowned by Rembrandt's "Praying Old Woman" on gilded copper, with further works by Rubens, Jan van Goyen, Aelbert Cuyp, Paulus Potter, Salomon van Ruysdael, Jan Davidsz. de Heem, Gerrit Dou, and Emanuel de Witte. Issued in the gallery's fifth revised and expanded edition, it reproduces 260 works and includes a full illustrated inventory of the paintings arranged alphabetically by artist, with scholarly notes and bibliography. This is the first English-language catalogue published by the gallery, printing a complete English translation of the German text and guide, and so is unusually accessible to English-speaking readers.
