In Very Good condition. Green illustrated paper covers show light bumping to edges and corners, mild surface wear, and some color loss along edges. Staple bound, binding tight. Pages mildly toned with occasional light spotting. Otherwise unmarked. Self-published guidebook by a Tintagel photo-historian who issued it in more than thirty revised editions between 1934 and 1984; this Golden Jubilee Edition marks the fiftieth year. Treats the archaeology of Tintagel Castle and the Celtic monastery on the headland alongside the Arthurian legend attached to the site. Photographs of finds from the castle and headland include a bronze centenionalis of the Roman emperor Magnentius recovered from a well near the castle about 1930, a fifth or sixth century bronze solar wheel and a Saxon silver sceat found in 1934, and a fifteenth century iron cannon-ball and axehead found on the approach in December 1972. Also illustrated are the twelfth century Norman chapel, a Celtic granite tomb shrine (leacht) of about A.D. 350, and a fourteenth century parchment crest showing the castle with its drawbridge. Closing plates give the legendary shields and emblems of King Arthur and the Knights of the Round Table. Historical information published with the approval of Tintagel Parish Council.
