In Very Good condition with a Very Good dust jacket. Orange cloth boards, gilt lettering and device to the spine; light bumping to the board edges and mild edge wear. Binding tight. A previous owner's circular blind embossed stamp to the front free endpaper; text otherwise clean and unmarked. Pictorial dust jacket, with a portrait to the front panel, shows a few small edge nicks, light creasing to the edges, mild fading to the spine, and mild shelf and edge wear. Now in an archival quality (removable) Brodart cover. R. W. Ketton-Cremer's detailed narrative of Norfolk during the English Civil War and the decade that preceded it, drawn largely from the Tanner Manuscripts in the Bodleian Library and other primary sources. A biographer by inclination, Ketton-Cremer tells the story of a single English county through its people, from bishops and gentry to parish clergy, soldiers, and townsmen, as Norfolk divided between Puritan Parliamentarians and Royalists. The first American edition, published by Archon Books in 1970, of a work first issued in London by Faber and Faber in 1969, the year of the author's death.
