The story includes the celebrated incident of paratrooper John Steele, whose parachute caught on the Sainte-Mère-Église church steeple (an effigy hangs there to this day), and is framed around American actress Kim Basinger taking her father, a D-Day veteran, back to the town for the fiftieth anniversary of the landings. This English-language translation is uncommon.
