Condition & notes

In Good condition with a Good dust jacket. Red cloth boards, gilt lettering to spine, mild shelf wear with some color loss along edges; spine slightly cocked; binding tight. Interior toned, with foxing to endpapers and to the text-block edges; first and last several leaves more heavily spotted, otherwise unmarked. Small bookseller's price sticker to top corner of front free endpaper. Decorative dust jacket printed with a red Burmese chinthe (lion) and floral repeat pattern on a green ground; several small chips and short tears (1/2 inch or less), light edge creasing, moderate shelf wear with some spotting and soiling; bottom corner of the front flap clipped, though the 15s net printed price is retained alongside the clip. Now in an archival quality (removable) Brodart cover.An account of the author's years as a magistrate in Rangoon, centering on the politically sensitive cases (a contested murder trial, charges of torture and sedition, the Rangoon riots) that set colonial justice against imperial authority.
