In Very Good condition with a Good+ dust jacket. Brown leatherette boards, gold lettering on spine, illustrated endpapers; mild shelf and edge wear. Binding tight. Previous owner's gift inscription in ink on half-title page. Otherwise unmarked. Pictorial dust jacket reproduces a photograph of a carved panel against a red ground; a 1-inch triangular chip at the top edge over the front cover, a few smaller nicks and tears, light creasing along edges, fading to spine and top edge, mild shelf wear. Now in an archival quality (removable) Brodart cover. A history of woodcarving in England from the medieval period through the Restoration and after, organized around its greatest practitioner, Grinling Gibbons (1648-1721).
