In Very Good condition. Glossy pictorial paper covers (front and back show a red-on-cream concentric-squares composition, uncredited in the catalogue, with the title set across the top of the front in black) with light bumping to edges and mild surface wear; cream margins of the wraparound design show mild toning. Binding is tight. Previous owner's name in ink at upper right corner of front free endpaper. Interior pages have a hint of toning. Otherwise unmarked.Inaugural exhibition catalogue published by the University of Nebraska Board of Regents in May 1963 to mark the opening of the Sheldon Memorial Art Gallery (now the Sheldon Museum of Art) in Lincoln, the marble-clad modernist building designed for the University by Philip Johnson and funded through the bequest of Frances and A. Bromley Sheldon. Foreword by Chancellor Clifford M. Hardin. The catalogue presents a selection of 105 works from the University's permanent collection, each entered with full curatorial apparatus (medium, dimensions, signature, history of ownership, exhibitions list, reproductions, and bibliography) under the direction of Norman A. Geske, Director, with conservation by F. duPont Cornelius. The collection traces its origins to the Haydon Art Club's 1888 exhibition and to the Nebraska Art Association, and at the time of the inauguration was already recognized as one of the most ambitious university holdings of twentieth-century American art.Artists represented include Constantin Brancusi, Ansel Adams, Edward Weston, Aaron Siskind, Robert Henri, John Sloan, William Glackens, George Ault, Milton Avery, Saul Baizerman, Ernst Barlach, Leonard Baskin, Kenneth Armitage, David Aronson, James Brooks, Erich Heckel, Morris Graves, Max Weber, and many others.Contents: Foreword (Clifford M.
