In Very Good condition. Black-and-white pictorial paper covers (front shows the Coachella Valley Savings & Loan, 1961; back shows the Palm Springs Desert Museum, 1976) with mild shelf wear. Faded original price sticker at upper right corner of back cover; original Palm Springs Preservation Foundation membership sticker also affixed to back cover, both retained. Binding is tight. Interior pages are clean. Otherwise unmarked.Published by the Palm Springs Preservation Foundation in November 2005 as the catalogue for a tribute event held shortly after the architect's death in September of that year. Emerson Stewart Williams (1909-2005) was one of the founding figures of Palm Springs Modernism, a Cornell-trained architect who, after a Beaux-Arts apprenticeship in Stuttgart and a fellowship year at Columbia, settled in Palm Springs in 1946 to join his father and brother in the firm Williams, Williams & Williams (later Williams, Clark & Williams). His commissions defined the desert modernist idiom in both commercial and residential work and included the Coachella Valley Savings & Loan, the Palm Springs Desert Museum (now the Palm Springs Art Museum), Crafton Hills College, the Santa Fe Federal Savings building, the Frank Sinatra House, and a series of landmark desert houses for clients including the Kenastons, the Koerners, the Edrises, and his own family.
