Wraps with French flaps, 61 pp. plus a folded map at the rear; 17 cm; text in Italian and English (translation by Bruno Seres); illustrated with original line drawings by architect Nedo Ferrari and a historical engraving of Pistoia. Co-published with the Provincia di Pistoia.
In Very Good condition. Cream paper covers with red lettering, red double-rule border, and red Pistoia coat-of-arms vignette on the front; rear cover with red seals of the Camera di Commercio and Provincia di Pistoia. Mild surface wear to covers. Binding tight. Pages clean and unmarked. Folded map at the rear intact and complete. A small bilingual guidebook to the historical center of Pistoia, in Tuscany, prepared by the Chamber of Commerce and Province of Pistoia. The book takes its title from Cino da Pistoia (ca. 1270-1336), the medieval Pistoian poet of the Stilnovo school and distinguished jurist who was a friend of Dante and an exile from his native city. After a foreword on Pistoia as a "città minore" deserving wider recognition, the guide describes the city's three concentric medieval circles of walls (8th, 12th, and 14th centuries) and walks the visitor through two suggested itineraries radiating out from the Piazza del Duomo. Nedo Ferrari's pen-and-ink illustrations record the Cattedrale, the Battistero, the Palazzo del Comune, the Palazzo dei Vescovi, churches such as S. Andrea and S. Bartolomeo, and the Fortezza S. Barbara, among others. The folded map at the rear shows transportation connections and the two walking routes with numbered sites keyed to the text. Alberto Cipriani is a journalist, Vice-President of the Societa Pistoiese di Storia Patria, and at the time of publication was Secretary General of the Camera di Commercio of Pistoia. Nedo Ferrari is an architect known for his work on industrial archaeology and the design of the Ecomuseo delle Ghiacciaie della Valle del Reno.
