In Very Good condition. Black-and-white pictorial paper covers with mild shelf wear. Binding is tight. Inscribed and signed ("Wally" - first name only) on the inside of the front cover, most likely by co-author Samuel Walter Orchard. Pages otherwise unmarked.A family-published biography of Samuel John Llewellyn Morgan Orchard (1876-1910), drawn primarily from his surviving letters. Part One follows Orchard's service as a trooper in the Imperial Yeomanry's Sharpshooters Corps during the Second Boer War, recounted in letters written to his family in Cornwall. Part Two traces his return to Southern Africa and his courtship of Anna Retief, a woman of Boer descent, a love affair beset by the post-war hostility between British and Boer communities.
