Self-published by the author, printed by The Dalles Optimist Print, The Dalles, Oregon, Published 1954. Staple-bound wraps, 24 pp.; 23 cm; illustrated throughout by Jeanne Becharas with line drawings (including a period map of the original 1854 Wasco County boundaries, which at the time of the county's creation extended from the crest of the Cascades east to the Continental Divide and made it the largest U.S. county ever organized) and several halftone photographs of Columbia River subjects.
Condition & notes
In Good condition. Brown textured paper covers, illustrated to the front in black with a wagon train and prairie scene below the title; light bumping and creasing to edges and corners and mild to moderate overall shelf wear with some soiling, including a thin 1.5-inch stain along the lower fore-edge of all pages, and crossing both covers. Previous owner's name and address stamped at the head of the front cover, twice at the head of the first inside page, and again at the head of the inside rear cover. Binding tight (staple bound). Otherwise pages are evenly toned but unmarked, with occasional light spotting.A locally produced commemorative booklet marking the one hundredth anniversary of Wasco County, Oregon (created January 11, 1854). As the author explains in his prefatory note, the work began as a radio program for the centennial and was issued in pamphlet form to be read aloud, mixing factual county history with imagined dialogue. Illustrated by Jeanne Becharas with cartoons, vignettes, and the period county map.
