Walking News, Inc., Published 1982. Wraps, 58 pp.; 23 cm; reissue of the 1909 first edition originally published by The Palisade Press, Edgewater, NJ; illustrated with black-and-white photographs (most by John P. Fritts), historical diagrams, a frontispiece reproduction of Van Dearing Perrine's painting "The Palisades" owned by the White House, and a large fold-out altitude and location map of the Palisades Region from Bergen Point to Piermont (drawn by F. F. Mons), housed in an envelope affixed to the inside back cover.

Condition & notes

In Very Good condition. Red illustrated paper covers (front cover with an Art Nouveau decorative border framing a brown vignette of a sailboat passing beneath the Palisades cliffs) show light bumping increasing toward the edges and mild surface wear. Back cover has price sticker residue and mild toning. Binding is tight, pages clean and unmarked. The fold-out map is present in its original envelope pocket on the inside back cover.A historical, geological, and topographical guide to the Palisades of the Hudson, prepared by Arthur C. Mack with technical assistance from Charles P. Berkey of Columbia (geology), Edward Hagaman Hall and J. Covers the geology of the trap rock ridge, the Lenape and Tappan Indians, Henry Hudson's 1609 voyage, the Burr-Hamilton duel, the Revolutionary War forts (Lee and Washington), Sneden's Landing and Mollie Sneden the ferrywoman, the old roads of the Palisades, and the early twentieth-century preservation efforts that established the Palisades Interstate Park.
