In Very Good condition. Glossy illustrated paper covers featuring Quigley's "Traveling Fast" (oil, 1953) on the front, light bumping and creasing to the edges and spine, mild shelf wear. Binding is tight, pages clean and unmarked. Exhibition catalog for "Horseman with a Paintbrush: The Art of Edward Quigley (1895-1984)," held at the Earle A. Chiles Center on the Spirit of the West, Brooks Gallery, The High Desert Museum, Bend, Oregon, September 26, 1992 - February 14, 1993. The exhibit traces Quigley's nearly 50-year career painting the horses, cowboys, buckaroos, mustangers, and Plateau peoples of the Pacific Northwest, drawing primarily from the Praegitzer and Parker collections along with works from the High Desert Museum's holdings and the Oregon Historical Society. Born in North Dakota and raised in Spokane, Quigley witnessed the close of the horse-drawn era firsthand, served as a camouflage artist with the 40th Engineers in World War I, and after a decade as a commercial artist and illustrator in the Midwest returned to the Pacific Northwest in 1930, settling at the base of Mt. Hood and later in Portland. His friendships with the Yakima rancher Tony Vey and other working horsemen shaped a body of work distinguished by intensely personal visions of High Desert horses against bunchgrass and rimrock.
