In Good condition. Plain grey-green laid paper wrappers with the title and author printed on the front wrap and "Lancaster Press, Inc., Lancaster, Pa." printed on the lower back wrap. Front wrap has a previous owner's name inked in the upper left, a five-digit accession number stamped at top center, and additional light pencil markings in the upper right. Wrappers show mild shelf wear and light toning with the paper sound. One page has an inked arrow correcting a misplaced line and pointing to where it should appear in the text. Otherwise interior pages are lightly toned but unmarked; the text block is sound and all pages are present and attached.The seventeenth paper in Schiller's series on the helminth fauna of Alaska. At the time of publication the author was parasitologist with the Animal-borne Disease Branch, Arctic Health Research Center, U.S. Public Health Service, Anchorage, Alaska. The paper reports findings from a sea otter (Enhydra lutris) investigation on Amchitka Island in the Aleutians, documenting larval stages of two helminth parasites: the ascarid nematode Porrocaecum decipiens (using the hermit crab Pagurus hirsutiusculus as intermediate host and numerous fish species including Theragra chalcogramma and Gadus macrocephalus as paratenic hosts, with adults in harbor seal Phoca vitulina and Steller's sea lion Eumetopias jubata), and the trematode Microphallus pirum (also utilizing the hermit crab as intermediate host). Acknowledges the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, the Aleutian Islands National Wildlife Refuge, and the Aleutian Island Air Transport Service for field support during the 1952-1953 Amchitka investigations.
