In Very Good condition. Glossy pictorial card wrappers, the front cover printing a reproduction of an abstract oil painting showing vertical green, yellow, and maroon streaks against a teal-and-blue sky, lettered in white "KONGTRUL JIGME NAMGYEL / WIDE EYE"; rear cover continues the same painting with only the artist's website URL (kongtruljigme.com) set in small type. Mild surface and trough wear with some color loss along the spine; light bumping to edges and corners of covers. Binding tight; pages clean and unmarked.Catalog issued to accompany "Wide Eye," a touring exhibition of paintings held at Weiss House (Boulder, Colorado; August 2014), the Pema Osel Gallery Space (Vershire, Vermont; September 2014), and the Garrison Institute (Garrison, New York; October 2014). Kongtrul Jigme Namgyel (also known as Dzigar Kongtrul Rinpoche, the Tibetan Buddhist lama recognized as an incarnation of the 19th-century master Jamgon Kongtrul Lodro Thaye) was born in Himachal Pradesh in 1964, moved to the United States in 1989, and founded Mangala Shri Bhuti in Colorado. He began painting in the 1990s under the guidance of the French abstract expressionist painter Yahne Le Toumelin, with Kandinsky and Picasso as early influences, drawn to abstract expressionism "due to its embrace of formless technique, which closely mirrors the relaxation of strict discipline found in advanced meditation." The catalog opens with a photograph of the artist at work and a brief biographical note, accompanied by his statement: "I consider this series of paintings to be freedom and joy, work that is playful and subtle. I hope that, in the same way it has been for me, viewers can connect with this work and find their own freedom of expression." Large color plates of works including Primordial (48 x 60 in.), Field of Dreams (48 x 60 in.), Peace in Gaza (48 x 72 in.), Tashi (48 x 60 in.), Five Families (48 x 24 in.), and Bloom (30 x 24 in.).
