California Jubilee was published in 1948 to celebrate the centennial of the California Gold Rush, the subtitle "Nuggets from Many Hidden Veins" reflecting its anthology nature. Ed Ainsworth, a veteran journalist and author who spent his career at the Los Angeles Times, drew on decades of reporting across the state to compile this collection of stories and reminiscences: the mystery of the Swallows of Capistrano, a celebration in Monterey, travels along the El Camino Real, the lost city of Buena Vista Lake, and many other episodes from California history and lore.
