Condition & notes

In Good condition overall; concertina in Very Good condition, housed in a Good four-flap portfolio folder. Outer portfolio folder shows bumping and creasing to edges, light to moderate shelf and edge wear, and color loss along edges. Cord-and-disc fasteners show creasing and peeling to the covering material but remain functional. Interior concertina panels are bright and clean throughout. An exhibition catalogue produced in concertina accordion-fold format for the exhibition "Jeronimos Monastery: A Place in Time," opened 16 December 2004. A multidisciplinary team of historians, designers, and journalists commissioned by the World Monuments Fund - Portugal compiled an illustrated timeline tracing the history of the Jeronimos Monastery, the Belem Tower, and their surrounding areas alongside the history of Portugal and the world from the monastery's construction through the 20th century. When fully extended, the concertina unfolds to approximately 558 cm (approximately 18 feet). One side presents three parallel illustrated timelines running simultaneously: World History, History of the Jeronimos Monastery, and History of Portugal. The reverse side contains thematic sections on the Order of Saint Jerome in Portugal, the Kings' Room (from ante-choir to Kings' Room) with architectural drawings and paintings, a genealogy of the Portuguese and 16th-century European royal houses with color portrait reproductions, and photographs of the exhibition installation.
