In good condition with acceptable dust jacket. Original rust cloth boards with silver lettering on spine and front cover; light rubbing and surface wear to covers; spine ends lightly bumped; binding sound. Previous owner's name and gift inscription dated Xmas 1961 in ink, with a small Christmas sticker affixed to the front free endpaper. Otherwise interior pages clean and unmarked. Dust jacket present but in acceptable to poor condition, with front flap separated and heavy edge wear, chipping, tears, creasing, and losses along edges and corners, and moderate overall scuffing, soiling, and toning; now in an archival quality (removable) Brodart cover. A collection of humorous and reflective World War II service memoirs by Canadian writer and public relations officer Doug Smith, drawn from his long-running column "The Observation Post" in The Legionary, the national magazine of the Royal Canadian Legion. The essays focus on everyday soldiers, officers, and wartime incidents in Canada and overseas, emphasizing camaraderie, irony, and the absurdities of military life rather than formal military history.
