Published as Al'manakh of the State Russian Museum, issue 158, this catalog documents the exhibition Stephan Spicher: Blossom, held in Saint Petersburg in 2007 under the auspices of the Ludwig Museum in the Russian Museum. The publication surveys Stephan Spicher's sustained exploration of the flower motif in painting and drawing, spanning works from approximately 1978 through 2006. Reproduced works include large scale paintings and works on aluminum, canvas, and paper, often incorporating lacquer and gold leaf. An essay by Alexander Borovsky situates Spicher's practice within abstract and minimalist traditions, addressing themes of line, material, and transformation. The catalog concludes with a biographical chronology and selected solo and group exhibition histories. Contents include: Stephan Spicher / Alexander Borovsky; Illustrations; Biography; Selected Solo Exhibitions; Selected Group Exhibitions.
