A program booklet for the 22nd season (1947) of The Mission Play, a historical pageant written by John Steven McGroarty and produced by the San Gabriel Mission Play Foundation under the direction of Adrian Awan. Originally staged in 1912, the play dramatizes the founding and history of California's missions, particularly the life and legacy of Father Junipero Serra. After a hiatus caused by the Depression, the production was revived following the 1945 acquisition of the Mission Playhouse by the City of San Gabriel. This edition features the role of Serra performed by film and stage actor Pedro de Cordoba. Includes background articles on the missions, biographies of key performers, a full cast list and synopsis of the three-act production, and illustrated vignettes of mission life.
