Not Ex-library This monograph documents the murals discovered in the tomb of Li Chung-jun (Li Chongrun), excavated at Chienhsien, Shensi Province (now Shaanxi), in 1971-72. The tomb, among the largest Tang Dynasty tombs excavated to date, contained murals covering 400 square meters depicting ceremonial guards, court attendants, musicians, hunting scenes, architectural elements, and floral designs. The accompanying text discusses Li Chung-jun's life as the son of Emperor Zhongzong and grandson of Emperor Gaozong, executed in AD 701 under Empress Wu Zetian's order. The publication analyzes the murals' artistic techniques, including chieh hua ("boundary painting"), and explores social hierarchies and Confucian ideology in Tang society. Includes an abstract in English, French and Chinese, list of plates, an architectural schematic diagram of tomb structure; and 40 plates reproducing the artworks in detail.
