In good condition with a small tear to the front cover at the top of the spine along light bumping and creasing to edges and corners of covers and light overall scuffing, aging and soiling with a bit of the color scuffed off along edges. Binding tight. Pages lightly aged but unmarked. Not Ex-library. A condensed English-language version of Shiba Yoshinobu's seminal Japanese-language study Sodai shogyo shi kenkyu (1968), providing an in-depth yet accessible analysis of economic and commercial development during the Song (Sung) Dynasty (960 - 1279). Studies the development of communications and transport in Sung and Yuan times, the formation of a nationwide market and the development of cities and markets during the Sung Dynasty, and the characteristics of commercial capital. The translation and abstract by Mark Elvin, who also edited the series.
