In very good condition with light bumping and creasing to edges and light overall scuffing. Pages unmarked. Exhibition catalog published in connection with a 2008 show at Throckmorton Fine Art in New York showcasing rare jade artifacts attributed to the Qijia culture (ca. 2100 - 1600 BCE) and associated early Northwestern Chinese civilizations. The catalog includes scholarly essays by Gu Fang, Senior Fellow at the Center of Jadeology and Jade Culture in Beijing, and Dr. Elizabeth Childs-Johnson of Old Dominion University. Topics addressed include the distribution, material, and formal properties of bi and cong jades, typological analysis, archaeological contexts, and stylistic comparisons with neighboring cultures such as Longshan and Liangzhu. The exhibition marked the first public showing in the United States of these early jade forms, known for their refined craftsmanship and unique material compositions, including tremolite and antigorite with inclusions of iron and calcium compounds. Descriptive entries document individual objects such as bi disks, axes with turquoise inlay, and fish-shaped blades, each accompanied by technical measurements and material analysis.
