Novi Sad: Matica srpska, 1969. First edition. 77 pp. In Serbian. Original printed wrappers. Number 108 of 300 numbered copies issued as part of the "Biblioteka Prva knjiga" (First Book Library), Volume 57. Inscribed and signed by the author on the half-title page, dated Belgrade, June 1969.
In acceptable condition. Black and white pictorial paper covers have a 1 x 1/5" patch where the top layer of paper has been pulled of from a price sticker removal. Moderate overall aging, scuffing and soiling to cover as well. First few pages have started to separate from the glued binding and are now laid-in, but all pages are present. Pages are lightly age but otherwise unmarked. some black and white illustrations. A scarce and significant debut by one of Serbia's most imaginative and stylistically distinct postwar writers. Vlajkovic, who would go on to gain national and critical recognition, was influenced by Serbian surrealists and often wrote with elements of poetic fantasy, irony, and absurdism. Several of the stories in this collection, including the title story, explore existential themes and were later adapted for film.
