Moderate overall scuffing, aging and soiling to covers as well. Staple bound with interior pages starting to pull away from covers but still intact. Pages lightly aged but otherwise unmarked with occasional spotting and soiling and rust stains from staples. A solid reading copy. Black and white illustrations. A popular almanac published in Washington DC which focused on US government information from the late 19th century. Contains calendars, astronomical data, US government information, including names of officers, judges, salaries, population figures, historical figures, US postal regulations, including foreign mail rates, currency, state governments. Includes several black and white illustrations. Back cover has an illustration of a little girl and says "With Compliments of G. W. Staples, dealer in Drugs, &c. Osceola Mill, Wis." Of particular note : At the end of the booklet is a 7 page pro-Louisiana State Lottery article titled "A Useful Institution." This article argues in favor of the lottery, detailing drawing dates, prize structures, and promoting its contributions to charitable and educational causes, despite growing opposition and the recent passage of the Anti-Lottery Act of 1890. The inclusion of this ad reflects the ongoing operations of the Louisiana State Lottery during its final years before its closure in 1893. The last page has a facsimile of a 1768 lottery ticket signed by George Washington.
