[From The Bookseller, Newsdealer and Stationer, Volume 11 1899] A Pretty Tory, by Jeanie Gould Lincoln, is a romance of the revolution, with four deliciously artistic illustrations by C. E. Heil. The scenes are laid in and around Savannah, and the time is the closing years of the war. Colonel Marion General Morgan, the "Border Eagle," and several other real historical personages figure in the story, and in the main it may be accepted as a fair picture of the society of the time and place. It is one of Marion's men who is in love with the pretty tory, and so is a young British officer, and this situation gives zest to the romance. In fact, the rivalry, its progress, and first final solution makes the story. But the authorship will go farther to commend it than any description, for few story-tellers could use the scenes and incidents with better effect than Mrs. Lincoln. It ends with the battle of Cowpens.
