In very good condition. Glossy pictorial paper covers with French flaps have light bumping to edges and light overall scuffing. Binding tight. Previous owner's gift inscription on front free end paper. Otherwise pages are clean and unmarked. NOT Ex-library. NO remainder marks. Black and white and color photos and illustrations throughout. [From front flap] Born in Benimamet (Valencia) in 1951, Santiago Calatrava Valls took a degree in architecture at Valencia in 1974, later taking a post-graduate diploma in urban planning. He moved to Zurich, where he studied engineering at ETH, the well-known Swiss polytechnic institute, graduating in 1979; continuing his studies there, he submitted a doctoral thesis in 1981 on folding structures entitled Zur Faltbarkeit von Fachwerken. That same year he opened a studio in Zurich (today with branch offices in Paris and Valencia). Over the next fifteen years the architect-engineer produced almost two hundred projects: studies, design outlines, proposals for competitions, works in various scales (from interiors to major infrastructures), and over thirty important constructions, including bridges, railway stations, airports, exposition facilities and urban interventions. The aim of this volume, in addition to documenting Calatrava's complete works, is to trace the complex contours of his wide-ranging career as a "constructor," difficult to place within the usual architectural categories, but which at the same time makes him one of the most original voices in contemporary architecture.
