In good condition with a few small nicks and tears and light creasing along edges. Light overall scuffing, aging and soiling to pages as well, but otherwise unmarked. Evans Lloyd was a composer active in the early 20th century, contributing to Broadway and other musical productions, although biographical information is sparse. [From back cover] Not in the history of songs do we "know" of a more artistic, "Classy" little song than this one. It's what the music publishers call a "novelty ballad," because there is much novelty in the idea and treatment of the theme, and at the same time, it's also a ballad. The "chimes" effect in this song has already been widely imitated, as are all original ideas, but the imitations in this case are simply boosting this original song, and it's quickly getting to be one of the big hits of the year. Many well know professional singers are featuring this song, and every day more are taking it, so we suggest you put this song down on our list of the "good things that last" and that you must have. . . A note about the cover art : Some of the most creative and eye-catching cover art of the ragtime-era were done by one of the prolific, but elusive, Starmer Brothers. Their work was of consistently high quality and they were turning out nearly a quarter of all large format covers from the late 1890s to around 1919. The identity of the artists was unknown until an invoice was discovered with a printed heading describing "Starmer" as artist and medical draughtsman. Not much else is known about the Starmer family.
