In good condition. In good condition with a few small nicks and tears and light creasing along edges. Light overall scuffing, aging and soiling to pages as well, but otherwise unmarked. Beautiful cover design by Starmer. Anita Owen (1873 - 1932), a well-known composer and lyricist during the ragtime era, is particularly recognized for her song "Sweet Bunch of Daisies." She was one of the few women composers to achieve considerable success in an industry dominated by men. "Marry Me, Carrie," is typical of the sentimental, catchy tunes of the early 20th century, appealing to a wide audience. [Verse I] I know a girl named Carrie, She's as sweet as sweet can be; I lover her and I've asked her, often, if she'd marry me; She says there is no hurry, If I'll wait perhaps she may, But I'm impatient, so when e'er She's near I always say.- [Chorus] Marry me Carrie, Why do you tarry? I'm awf'lly fond of you. For yo I'm sighing For love i'm dying, Marry me, Carrie, do. A note about the cover art: Some of the most creative and eye-catching cover art of the ragtime-era were done by one of the prolific, but elusive, Starmer Brothers. Their work was of consistently high quality and they were turning out nearly a quarter of all large format covers from the late 1890s to around 1919. The identity of the artists was unknown until an invoice was discovered with a printed heading describing "Starmer" as artist and medical draughtsman. Not much else is known about the Starmer family.
