In acceptable condition/ NO dust jacket. Illustrated paper over boards with blue cloth on spine. Bumping and chipping to paper over edges of covers with a bit of the underlying boards exposed along edges. Moderate overall scuffing, aging and soiling to covers as well. Binding tight. Previous owner's gift inscription, date (1934) and "Bloomingdales" written in pencil along edges of front paste-down. Pages lightly aged but otherwise unmarked. NOT Ex-Library. NO remainder marks. A good reading copy. Photographic illustrations by Author. The son of a well known chef in Brussels, Philippe longs for companionship is delighted when he gets a new baby sister, Rose. As he grows older, he is very patriotic about Belgium, and enjoys welcoming visitors. However, when he innocently makes friends with a cunning thief, Tom and his sweet daughter Zelie, Philippe winds up having some adventures far from home! Madeline Brandeis (1897 - 1937) was a children's book author and film producer and director. She was best known for her "Children of America" and "Children of All Lands" book series. She illustrated her books with photographs from her travels, often casting her daughter Marie as the main character for stories about little girls. She also founded The Little Players' Film Co., which during the Silent Film era produced eight films geared to children.
