Catalog of a 1970-71 exhibition of 80 paintings and drawings by Philip Pearlstein (1924-2022), organized by the Georgia Museum of Art with the Wichita Art Museum and the Vassar College Art Gallery. The works run from 1956 to 1970, from early expressionist landscapes such as Mountain Wall (1956) to the realist figure paintings and portraits of the 1960s, among them Portrait of Mr. and Mrs. Pommer (1968). Linda Nochlin's essay, "The Art of Philip Pearlstein: Realism is Alive and Well in Georgia, Kansas and Poughkeepsie," sets his realism against Pop and the reductive abstraction of the decade. Includes a catalogue of the works with medium, dimensions and lenders, a detailed chronology from his birth in Pittsburgh in 1924, and a selected bibliography. Printed by the University of Georgia Printing Department in Bodoni type; designed by Willard Pilchard.
