Condition & notes
In Very Good condition. Cream illustrated paper covers, front with color reproduction of a painting by Donna Stoner, rear with photograph of the author by Kim Weston; mild to moderate overall surface and edge wear, some spotting and soiling to front and rear covers, light overall toning. Binding tight. Mild spotting to edges of text block, endpapers and half-title. Otherwise pages clean and unmarked. Collection of poems by Ric Masten, the Carmel-born poet, folksinger and Unitarian minister who lived in Palo Colorado Canyon in Big Sur, pairing his poems and song lyrics of 1969 with new work of 1979. In his introduction to the 1979 section Masten recalls how his friend Cole Weston persuaded him to pose nude in a tree for a photograph in 1954; that photograph, Nude 1954, is reproduced here alongside Cole Weston's Surf and Headlands (in color) and Coast Near Bixby Creek, Edward Weston's The Chambered Nautilus, and Kim Weston's The Friends. Includes a preface by philosopher Maurice Friedman, an author's note, and melody lines with chords for seven of Masten's songs, among them The Walking Voice, Peace Parade and Demian's Mirror.
