Condition & notes
In Very Good condition. Cover bright, with mild shelf wear and light creasing along edges and corners. Pages lightly toned, a few small spots to p. 4, otherwise unmarked. The Carpenters' recording of the Academy Award-winning theme from the ABC Pictures film Lovers and Other Strangers (1970), "As recorded by the Carpenters on A&M Records No. 1244." This printing has the "Academy Award Winner" Oscar graphic on the cover, added after the song won Best Original Song in 1971. The Carpenters' single reached No. 3 on the Billboard Hot 100 and No. 1 on the easy listening chart. Because they had not appeared in a film, the Carpenters were not allowed to perform it at the Oscar ceremony, and Petula Clark sang it in their place. Lyricists "Robb Wilson" and "Arthur James" are pseudonyms of Robb Royer and James Griffin of the group Bread. Cover box lists the other published editions: vocal solo (pop version); easy piano big-note arranged by Matt Dennis; piano solo as recorded by Roger Williams; organ solo arranged by Bill Irwin; SSA and SATB choral arranged by Ed Lojeski.
