Fifty cases from the Case Records of the Massachusetts General Hospital, the weekly clinicopathological conferences published in the New England Journal of Medicine between 1936 and 1959. The method, begun at MGH by Richard C. Cabot, became a standard of medical teaching: a case history is presented, a clinician gives a differential diagnosis, and the pathologist reports the findings. Discussants include Fuller Albright, Paul D. White, Soma Weiss, C. Miller Fisher and Arnold Relman. Castleman (1906-1982), chief of the James Homer Wright Pathology Laboratories at MGH and longtime editor of the Case Records, is the namesake of Castleman disease; he contributes Case 24 and many of the pathological discussions. Dedicated to Richard Clarke Cabot and Tracy Burr Mallory. Contents: Preface; Cases 1-50; List of Discussants; Index.
