In Good condition, no dust jacket. Tan cloth boards with black lettering on front cover and spine, publisher's monogram at foot of spine; mild to moderate shelf and edge wear, bumped corners, overall toning and soiling, heavier on rear cover, scattered light spotting. Publisher's typed compliments slip tape-mounted on front pastedown, tape toned. Pages mildly toned, otherwise unmarked. English edition of the 1942 Springer reference compiled at the Kaiser Wilhelm-Institut fur Chemie, Berlin-Dahlem: a survey of all known stable and radioactive nuclei with isotopic weights, abundances, half-lives, radiation energies and nuclear reactions, each entry keyed to more than a thousand original papers, preceded by Siegfried Flugge's introduction to nuclear physics, which includes a section on the fission of the heaviest nuclei. The authors' preface is dated October 1941 and covers the literature received to August of that year. Josef Mattauch (1895-1976) succeeded Lise Meitner as head of the institute's physics department; he co-designed the Mattauch-Herzog mass spectrograph, and his isobar rule is stated in the text. The German copyright was vested in the Alien Property Custodian in 1943, and this edition was "published and distributed in the public interest" under the Custodian's License No. A-1136. With the publishers' compliments slip. Contents: Preface to the German Edition; An Introduction to Nuclear Physics (I. Stable Nuclei; II. Nuclear Reactions; III. Unstable Nuclei; IV. Systematics of Stable Nuclei); Nuclear Physics Tables (Explanation of Tables; Table I. Properties of Stable Nuclei; Table II. Maximum Possible Abundance of Probably Nonexistent Nuclei; Table III.
