In Good condition, no dust jacket. Pictorial paper boards with blue cloth spine; mild shelf wear to edges and corners, scattered spots, soiling and faint pencil lines to rear board. Binding tight. Period gift inscription on dedication page dated Christmas 1935. Faint residue of erased pencil scribbles on several text and blank pages, and small pencil doodles in lower margin of one plate. Toning along gutter of dedication spread; pages lightly toned. Otherwise unmarked. Picture book of Lasse-Lapp and his sister Lappe-Lise, Sami children in the far north of Norway, who play a bear-skin prank under the Northern Lights, race their reindeer Silverside and Snowwhitedeer across the plain, go down to the village school by the schoolmaster's horse sledge, and join the spring migration to the coast. Based on the d'Aulaires' own journey among the Sami and dedicated to Princesses Ragnhild and Astrid of Norway. Ingri and Edgar Parin d'Aulaire drew their illustrations directly on lithographic stone; five years later they won the 1940 Caldecott Medal for Abraham Lincoln.
