Hardcover, [x], 162, [3] pp.; 23 cm; First Edition (dated 1964 on copyright page with no later printing noted); inscribed, apparently by the author; photographic frontispiece, illustrations of fish species by Lissa Calvert printed on turquoise, line drawings of tackle, and a photographic plate of lures.
In Very Good condition with a Very Good dust jacket. Black cloth boards with blue fish stamped on front, blue lettering on spine. Mild shelf and edge wear to covers. Binding tight. Inscribed on front free endpaper in blue ink, apparently by the author, "We miss you around here," signed "Mike" and dated Dec 16/64; later gift note in ink at head. Top corner of front free endpaper clipped. Otherwise unmarked. Illustrated dust jacket by Vern Tremewen, angler in a rushing stream to front, leaping steelhead to rear, not price clipped ($5.95); a few small nicks and tears, light creasing to edges, mild shelf wear with some color loss along edges. Now in an archival quality (removable) Brodart cover. The first of four fishing and hunting books Cramond (b. 1913) wrote for Mitchell Press while Outdoors Editor of the Vancouver Province, a post he held for more than 20 years. A long opening section on steelhead covers rods, reels, lures, terminal tackle, drifting and float fishing, followed by chapters on cutthroat, Kamloops rainbow, brown trout, char, kokanee, Arctic grayling, bass and pike, then coho, pink and spring salmon and saltwater mooching and strip casting. Fishing is mainly in British Columbia (the Cowichan, Dean, Skagit and Thompson rivers among many), with a glossary of place names.
