In Very Good condition. Black paper covers lettered in red and white, staple bound. Light bumping to edges and corners, mild shelf wear, and a horizontal scuff mark across the middle of rear cover. Portland Art Museum shop sticker at lower rear cover. Binding tight. Pages clean. Otherwise unmarked. Publisher's prospectus for the five-volume Meiji no Takara, issued by the Kibo Foundation to announce the catalogue of the Nasser D. Khalili Collection of Japanese Art - some 750 pieces of Meiji decorative art, assembled to document Japanese technical mastery in lacquer, cloisonne, metalwork and ceramics. Foreword by Oliver Impey of the Ashmolean Museum and Malcolm Fairley, who argue that Meiji craft was long dismissed by scholars and collectors because most of the finest work was made for export and never seen in Japan. Full-page color plates of pieces from the collection: a silver and shibuichi cockatoo by Nishimura Toshihiko dated 1911, an articulated silver elephant, lacquer by Shibata Zeshin, cloisonne by Namikawa Yasuyuki and Namikawa Sosuke, Satsuma earthenware by Yabu Meizan, and porcelain by Makuzu Kozan. Final leaf lists all five volumes with contributors, page counts, plate counts and individual ISBNs, and names the editorial board, among them Lawrence Smith of the British Museum, Barbara Ford of the Metropolitan Museum, and curators from the Victoria and Albert and the Tokyo National Research Institute.
