Brandylane Publishers, Published 2010. Paperback, xiv, 134 pp.; 23 cm; illustrated with color plates and black-and-white drawings by Buttons Boggs, with a pen-and-ink map. Inscribed and signed by the author on the half-title, in black ink, dated December 6, with first name only.
In Very Good condition. Glossy pictorial covers, bright and clean, with mild shelf wear, bumping to edges and a crease to bottom corner of front cover. Perfect bound, binding tight. Pages clean. Otherwise unmarked. Animal fable set in the tidewater woodland of Virginia's York River and the Chesapeake Bay, in which a community of animals organizes to stop a development from clearing their woods. Timothy Trumble the tortoise, Cornelius the fish crow, Mukki the muskrat and Squadron Leader Rupert Gull travel aboard the schooner Solaris to Assateague Island and back. Text carries original songs printed with music and lyrics by Galbari, among them "Our Olde Chesapeake Home." Closes with a vocabulary word list and a Latin glossary giving genus and species for the flora named in the story, from loblolly pine to Virginia bluebell. Epigraph from Brave Buffalo, Teton Sioux medicine man. Boggs signed and dated her illustrations 2009; she was artist and writer-in-residence in King William County, Petersburg, Norfolk, Virginia Beach and Richmond schools. Galbari was born in Belfast, worked in aviation in London and later in Minnesota advertising, wrote for Pleasant Living and Airways, and lives in Virginia. Brandylane issued a revised second edition in 2020 under the Belle Isle Books imprint, with additional illustrations by Nancy Taylor Atkins.
