In Very Good condition. Green paper covers, front cover with a line drawing of a lady and an armoured knight beneath a tree with a nesting eagle, signed by the artist; light shelf and edge wear. Binding tight. Pages clean and unmarked. Nineteen papers gathered for the thirtieth-anniversary year of the Society for Creative Anachronism, each with footnotes, bibliography and a note on the author, several by contributors with credentials in the subject: the Toulouse paper is by a Toronto MA in medieval studies, the woad paper by a King County Master Gardener who grew the crop for three years. Title is misspelled "Acedemic" on both cover and title page. Subjects run from agricultural practice and the Bayeux Tapestry to the Machiavellian ethic and Shakespeare's Coriolanus, though the practical papers carry the volume: knitted fourteenth-century relic pouches reconstructed from the Chur and Sion finds and the Las Huelgas burial pillows, with charted colourwork, needle gauges and thread analysis; a history of woad as a medieval industry with a map of the Lincolnshire and Cambridgeshire growing districts and instructions for raising the plant; the pre-seventeenth-century highland bagpipe argued from Giraldus, the Gorleston Psalter and the Luttrell Psalter; iridescent Roman and Islamic glass beads with photographic plates; and The Lucette Book, seventeen pages on cord braiding with its own bibliography.
