Sotheby Parke Bernet, Published 1974. Paperback, [404] pp.; 20 x 21 cm; illustrated in black-and-white with color plates; laid in are the folding pre-sale estimate sheet for all three sales and a one-page letter from the Edgardo Acosta Gallery, Ltd., Beverly Hills, dated January 15, 1974, announcing the closing of the gallery after 18 years and the Sotheby liquidation of its inventory.
In Good condition. Blue textured paper covers with gold lettering on front and spine show a few tiny nicks to edges, light bumping increasing toward corners, and fading to spine. Single large staple through the center of the binding, visible inside front cover; text block glued to covers and beginning to separate along bottom edge. Faint pencil marks at upper corner of title page, pages otherwise unmarked. Catalogue for three consecutive evening sales at Sotheby Parke Bernet's Beverly Boulevard rooms, 478 lots in all. Sale 110, Impressionist and Modern, led with a Sisley Lisiere de la Foret de Fontainebleau (estimate $100,000-125,000), a Monet Prairie Ensoleillee, Giverny ($80,000-120,000), a Courbet Effet de Neige, a Degas Danseuse, a Cassatt Young Woman Fastening her Sister's Dress, and works by Vuillard, Vlaminck, Utrillo, Kisling, Chagall, Valtat, Toulouse-Lautrec, and Albers, consigned by estates in New York, Greenwich, Houston, Hollywood, Santa Monica, and Pasadena. Sale 111 was Part I of the stock of the Edgardo Acosta Gallery (441 North Bedford Drive), the Beverly Hills dealer in Ecole de Paris painting since 1957, with Calder gouaches, Miro, Braque, Guillaumin, Picasso, Pissarro, Rodin, Leger, Masson, and Grau-Sala. Sale 112, Contemporary, included Warhol, Lichtenstein, Ruscha, Diebenkorn, Rauschenberg, Oldenburg, Motherwell, Judd, Irwin, and Bell. Alphabetical list of artists with lot numbers, conditions of sale, and advice to bidders.
