In Good condition. Glossy cream illustrated paper covers show bumping and creasing to edges and corners with mild shelf and edge wear; front cover with moderate creasing and a few small foxing spots along fore-edge; rear cover with two long creases running down from top and bottom edges, further creasing to corners, mild toning and soiling. String-sewn binding tight. Pages mildly toned but otherwise unmarked. Catalogue of the collection formed by Earle W. Grant (1890-1971) and Pliny F. Munger (1890-1962), the two lifetime trustees whose gifts and bequests built the modern and Asian holdings of the Fine Arts Gallery of San Diego (now the San Diego Museum of Art). Issued in May 1970 to mark the remodeling of the Grant-Munger Gallery, with a foreword by Philip L. Gildred, an introduction by retiring director Warren Beach recounting how the two men assembled the collection in New York and at their Point Loma house, and acknowledgements by director Henry G. Gardiner. Research by Martin E. Petersen (Western art) and Carl M. Skinner (Asian art); photographs by Roy Robinson. 181 catalogue entries with medium, dimensions, provenance, references, and exhibition history, including Archipenko, Barye, Beckmann, Boudin, Braque, Calder, Karfiol, Klee, Kuniyoshi, Lachaise, Renoir, Rouault, Vuillard, Weber, Zao Wou-Ki, and Zorn, followed by Cambodian, Chinese, Indian, Iranian, Japanese, Nepalese, Sino-Scythian, and Thai sculpture, ceramics, and painting, many acquired through Gump's of San Francisco.
