Pale grey pictorial paper covers (Self-Portrait with Raised Sabre on front, Old Woman Sleeping on a printed linen-pattern ground on rear), light bumping to corners, mild shelf wear, a few faint surface scuffs to front cover. Binding tight. Pages clean and unmarked. Catalogue of the exhibition of Rembrandt etchings mounted by the Union Square gallery for the 400th anniversary of the artist's birth in 2006, with the four-page essay Rembrandt as a Celebrator of Other Artists by Gary Schwartz, author of The Complete Etchings of Rembrandt and The Rembrandt Book, who spoke at the opening. Schwartz argues that Rembrandt's switch from the RHL monogram to signing "Rembrandt f." in 1633, on the Self-Portrait in a Cap and Scarf (Bartsch 17), marked the centenary of the death of Lucas van Leyden, his Leiden predecessor, and traces borrowings from Lucas and Durer (Christ Driving the Money-Changers from the Temple, 1635, after Durer's 1508 woodcut).
