In Good condition. Pictorial paper covers reproduce Irion Shields' 1948 painting "Lobster Rocks," a view of Dana Point from San Clemente. Mild to moderate shelf wear with bumping and creasing to edges and corners, and some color loss along edges of spine. A 2 inch diagonal crease across upper front cover, with scattered foxing to the cream ground. Binding tight. Errata slip creased. Pages mildly toned. Otherwise unmarked. Korb assembled this as a pocket abstract of his own art library, and Norman Davies of the Old Master Gallery in Lawndale talked him into publishing it. It answers one question: is the artist listed, and where. Over fifty biographical directories and exhibition catalogs are indexed by artist, the Moure entries scored in tenths of a column so a user knows how much is actually there, with a Where? column naming the libraries that hold each source. Published three years before Edan Hughes' Artists in California 1786-1940 gave the field its standard dictionary, it still reaches what Hughes does not: exhibition catalogs, and the National Academy of Design and American Watercolor Society rolls. Printed directly from Korb's typescript to hold the price down.
