In Very Good condition with a Good dust jacket. Black cloth boards with a shark stamped in blue on the front board and carrying onto the spine, silver lettering on spine, with mild shelf and edge wear. Binding tight. Pages mildly toned, otherwise unmarked. Pictorial dust jacket has a one-inch triangular chip to the paper at the foot of the spine and a three-quarter-inch triangular chip at the head, several smaller chips, tears, and creasing along the edges, and mild shelf wear with some color loss along the edges and spine. Not price clipped. Now in an archival quality (removable) Brodart cover. Hass's account of the Xarifa expeditions: the second Red Sea reconnaissance, the aqualung-and-camera survey of the Great Barrier Reef, and the Caribbean and Galapagos voyage. He describes the shark that took his wrist off Suakin and the run to the hospital at Port Sudan, the sperm whale work in the Azores, and the floodlit color filming of coral for Under the Caribbean. Photographs are credited to Hass, Lotte Hass, and Kurt Hirschel among others, taken with the Unterwasser-Leica and the Rolleimarin housing Hass designed with Francke und Heidecke. Irenaeus Eibl-Eibesfeldt sailed as zoologist, and his cleaner-fish and marine iguana observations from this voyage run through the later chapters.
