In Good condition. Green pebbled paper covers with bumping and creasing to edges and corners, and moderate scuffing with color loss along edges, heaviest along the spine edge, giving covers a mottled look. Mild soiling and spotting to covers. Previous owner's note in ink at head of front cover reads "Excellent Wax + Wooden Dolls." Binding tight, staple bound. Two blue ink marks on p. 92, a tick beside the article title and an X in the margin. Upper outer corner of p. 93 dog-eared. Pages mildly toned with a band of heavier toning along the top edge. Otherwise unmarked. The sixth edition of the manual issued by the Doll Collectors of America, Inc., of Boston, founded in 1936, compiled from material assembled by Alice Ripley Andrews, president from 1937 until her death in November 1962, and published in her memory. The bulk of the volume is "The Decline and Fall of the Wooden Doll" by Ruth E. and R. C. Mathes, running pp. 25 to 59, which traces English and Continental wooden dolls from the seventeenth century through the Georgian and peg-wooden types, with an approximate date guide, notes and bibliography. Shorter pieces cover French bisque and Jumeau dolls, papier-mache, wax, Greiner and pre-Greiner heads, milliner's models and rag dolls, illustrated throughout with photographs by Richard Merrill from named private collections.
