In Acceptable condition. Outer cover split about 4 inches at the head of the fold but still attached; nicking, tearing, and creasing to page edges. Previous owner's name in ink on front cover, with light pencil markings. Moderate shelf wear with some color loss along edges, toning, and soiling. Interior pages lightly aged but otherwise unmarked.Harry Von Tilzer (1872-1946) was one of Tin Pan Alley's most prolific and successful composers, often credited with popularizing the phrase "Tin Pan Alley" itself, with hits from "I Want a Girl (Just Like the Girl That Married Dear Old Dad)" to "Wait Till the Sun Shines, Nellie." "Somebody's Mother," billed on the cover as "Harry Von Tilzer's Most Beautiful Home Ballad," is a sentimental Great White Way ballad with words by his frequent collaborator Andrew B. Sterling, issued from Von Tilzer's own New York house. The cover is by Albert Wilfred Barbelle (1887-1957), one of the era's leading sheet-music cover illustrators, a Waterson, Berlin and Snyder staff artist who designed hundreds of Tin Pan Alley covers over a 44-year career and illustrated the first Mickey Mouse book. Back cover advertises two other Von Tilzer ballads, "That Old Irish Mother of Mine" and "Answer (Saying That You Love Me)."
