Staple bound, binding tight, pages clean and unmarked.A promotional service booklet issued by the William O. McKay Company, the Ford and Lincoln dealership that William Osborne McKay (1887-1956) opened in Seattle in 1922 and built into a Westlake Avenue landmark at the south end of Lake Union. Under the slogan "After we sell, we serve," it recounts the company's history and sets out its flat-rate service charges, complete night Ford service staffed by factory-trained experts, a Ford lubrication chart, and a summary of common engine troubles and their causes, with brief biographies of Henry Ford and William O. McKay and photographs of the McKay buildings, the repair shop, and both men. McKay set a Pacific Coast sales record in 1923, selling 150 Fords in 28 days; added the Lincoln line in an ornate 1925 terra-cotta showroom designed by Harlan Thomas and Clyde Grainger (architects of the Sorrento Hotel); and later became a founder of Seattle Seafair and the city's 1942 First Citizen. This is the 1977 second printing of the booklet first issued in 1925. Both showrooms were designated Seattle landmarks in 2006 and afterward demolished in the South Lake Union redevelopment.
