In Very Good condition. Illustrated glossy card covers, front with a pen-and-ink architectural sketch. Light bumping to edges and mild shelf wear. Binding tight. Title page bears an ink presentation inscription, "with the best wishes, Author," dated 25/3/92 (inscribed "Author," not signed with a personal autograph). Otherwise unmarked. A condensed version of a lecture on Polish art delivered at the University of Lisbon, surveying Polish architecture from the Romanesque through the contemporary, along with medieval sculpture, painting, the minor arts, and modern Polish art in the National Museum, Cracow. Issued by the Polish University Abroad (PUNO), the London emigre institution that grew out of the Polish academic schools established in Britain during the Second World War to continue Polish higher education in exile. The author, Zbigniew Gasiewicz (born 1921), was a Polish-born architect and Military Cross holder who served as a commando officer at Monte Cassino, Ancona, and Bologna, studied architecture in Rome and London, served as Principal Architect of the London Borough of Hounslow (1965-1975), and was appointed Professor at the Polish University Abroad in 1975.
