Two paperback volumes in publisher's cardboard slipcase, 1009 pp total; 24 cm; text in German, with contributions in Dutch, English, French, Italian, Spanish, and Swedish (English summaries); illustrated with black-and-white photographs, facsimiles, maps, plans, and portraits. The frontispiece to volume two is an original lithograph by H.O. Muller-Erbach, signed and numbered 280/700.
In Good condition. Tan marbled paper covers with light bumping to corners. Bindings tight, no spine creases; perfect-bound (glued). Photographic portrait frontispiece to volume one (a portrait of Marielene Putscher) detached and laid in, present and complete; all other leaves remain bound and the binding is otherwise sound. About 30 of the first 100 pages of volume one carry neat highlighting, no other markings; volume two unmarked. Light foxing to the top and bottom edges of both text blocks. Slipcase Very Good with light shelf wear. Otherwise unmarked. A two-volume Festschrift presented to Marielene Putscher, professor of the history of medicine at Cologne, on her 60th birthday in 1984. Gathers some fifty scholarly essays by contributors from fourteen countries on the history of medicine and its connections with art, ranging from Assyro-Babylonian and Roman antiquity through Avicenna, Leonardo, Durer, Rembrandt, and Manet to modern psychiatry. Volume two includes a bibliography of Putscher's own writings (pages 971-995).
